This idol of ‘me and mine’ can become deeply ingrained in all kinds of organizations, and when it does it suffocates the generous, joyful life God wants us to live. According to the values of the world, we should be competitors. We should view one another with wary skepticism, and as threats to our individual success. Yet the values of the world do not dictate how we view one another, the values of God’s Kingdom do. We are not competitors in a limited marketplace, but partners in God’s mission. As this truth captivates our hearts, it pushes out any tendencies towards selfishness, pride and independence—and releases us into radical generousity and healthy collaboration.
