Genesis 30:1-24⎪Two Hijacked Hearts

Points:

  1. Leah’s hijacked heart

  2. Rachel’s hijacked heart

  3. The heart of a son or daughter of God

This is the essence of idolatry: someone or something other than God is occupying the God-shaped space at the centre of our heart.

Whatever it is, when you ascribe ultimate significance to it and say, "I have to have this or I die (or my life is empty)" —it is an idol.

God's love was extended to Jacob, promising great things to him at Bethel, not because of the kind of person he was but in spite of the kind of person he was.

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory — Romans 8:14-17
